James Digman about his December Show

James Dingman about his December art show : ” I’ve been experimenting with color lately!  Actually, I HAD to.  I tend to work in lots of blues – it’s my color.  But I have a commission to do and the client doesn’t like blue!  She’s more into oranges, greens and browns – earthy colors – and that’s not where I usually go.  So I did these pieces to make peace with orange.  It’s not the easiest color to work with but I came to like it very much!  The series is called ‘Orange You Glad We Met.’
While these pieces, like all of mine, were done intuitively over several sessions, I found myself drawn to a plane geometric structure.  Horizontal, vertical and circular kept creeping in and gave me a skeleton on which to hang the rest of the shapes and colors.  My titles reflect what I saw and felt while creating the pieces but that’s just my idea.  I want my work to be as much about what the viewer sees as about what I intended, so I invite anyone looking at the pieces to see them from a little distance first – glean what meaning you can from them – then step in and see what I thought in the title.  And, here’s a little tip:  your interpretation will always top mine!
The bigger piece is a mini autobiography.  It’s a snapshot of my night life over the past few months.  I had a bit of surgery earlier this year and one of the end results was a bit of insomnia.  This painting expresses that (to me, anyway).  I don’t see it as a nightmare, but rather as a time when thought runs free and ideas are put together in different ways.  Yes, there are faces and geometries and body parts in there, all intersecting in a sleepless kind of way.  As you can tell (go ahead and touch the piece!), the sandman flew over the canvas as I was working on it (I’m talking about the texture!). “

Contest winner “Call for Artist ” Jon Gascon

Jon Salvador Gascon is the 2nd winner of our Call for artist contest for the month of December, Theme: Together .His colorful fun pen stocks tell small stories in a very abstract form and let your imagination run free.

Jon Gascon Artist bio:   My art is abstract; where images can be whimsical, thought-provoking, striking and sometimes shocking. I try to convey the complexities, emotions, and intricacies of the human condition. Each piece I create is a feast for the eyes, the mind and the soul. I describe my work as “random, abstract expressionism.” I was born and raised in San Jose, California. I have always been a creative person; drawing and doodling as a kid. I became a graphic artist because of my love for design, colors and esthetic appeal of printed advertising, commercial art, rock posters and record covers. I have always had an appreciation for art but had never attempted to put anything down on paper or canvas. I began drawing on in 2007 as a way of dealing with anxiety. I found putting my emotions on paper to be very meditative and profound. And the results were extremely satisfying to me. I am a self-taught artist and also a collector, so my appreciation of art has greatly influenced my own work. Artist such as Joan Miro, Pablo Picasso, Keith Haring, Alexander Calder, H.R. Geiger, and Andy Warhol have inspired my artistic style. In the beginning, my drawings were very private and personal and only seen by very few. My early drawings were done in black ink or black ink with one color. For me black ink my drawings represents deep human emotion at its rawest and most fragile. Black to me is very powerful and bold, especially against a white background. It was not until late 2013 that I started posting my drawings on Facebook, just to share with friends and family. But when the positive comments started coming, I felt my confidence grow and I started drawing on a regular basis. At the beginning of 2014, I began experimenting with multi-color drawings. Using my graphic artist experience I began to use different color combinations that I found appealing. I found the color gave life to my work. In the spring of 2014, First Friday in Downtown Las Vegas became my first public showing of my illustrations. In the fall, I participated in the Art2 Downtown Arts Festival, and a month later began showing my work at Art House LV Gallery in the Arts District of Downtown Las Vegas. In 2017, I participated in the 12” of Sin Art Festival. Also, in 2017, I had my first solo show, Abstractions, at the Art House LV Gallery. In late 2015, I was selected, as one of 20 artists to participate in ZAP 7, a program designed to beautify Las Vegas neighborhoods and parks. This was my first foray in public arts and was a learning and rewarding experience. As a result of Zap 7, I became involved with Guerrilla Artz and have participated in numerous events with this art collective including: “Day of the Dead” at New York, New York Casino, 2015 Life is Beautiful festival, Summerlin & Henderson Arts Festivals, and First Fridays. I have participated in many charity events, including: Aid for AIDS of Nevada AFAN “Paint The Town, volunteer with ”Project Daybreak”, and the Home Deployment Project’s “Artist Lend A Hand.”

Jon is also our Galley volunteer and works on weekends the gallery, to see him live paint and work visit him on Sundays between 4-7p.m. Many of his outstanding and fast selling print are available in the gallery as well.

Meet the artist this preview Thursday and 1st Friday , Nov 30 ( 6-9p.m.) and Dec. 1st ( 6- 11p.m.) for a little talk about his artworks, with many of our other showing artist in the gallery.

Photographs of Chuck Jones

On display in the hallways in front of the Gallery are the large photo prints from Chuck Jones. These are a must seen homage on architecture and light.

Chuck Jones about the artworks

Color of Night, is a series I started 20 years ago from his love to architecture. From the minds of their creators, these structures almost come to life, surrounding and towering over us, revealing their forms like giant sculptures calling out to be admired as we past by, and, it i through the colors of light, that these giant structure reveal their shapes and come alive. With the use of my camera, like a painters brush I attempt to paint a picture by documenting these creations. ”  Chuck Jones

All images are for sale, all of these image were created using a Pentax 67II camera , and Fuji Provia 100F E-6 ( positive ) film. They were then scanned on Imacon film scanner and printed on metallic fein art paper.
