It was 10 years ago today …

Good times! Look at us, just hanging out on a wall and on a waiting list to get a location for our first Jana’s RedRoom local emerging artist gallery that Kevin would open for me and my friends:

That was 10 years ago today.

I was waiting to get a space for Jana’s RedRoom gallery. It would be a place where I would show all my artist friends’ work. My friends were from the Fine Art schools I was attending at both University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) and College of Southern Nevada (CSN).

My husband bought us a wall in the Art Factory Las Vegas for one month. Then on June 7 (my birthday, BTW…just say’n) I was told I had been selected for my first space. Over time we grew to become the biggest first floor space (1200 square feet) in The Arts Factory at the time.

Thanks for sharing this memory, Bobby J Wysocki, you’re one of the most talented artist in all of Las Vegas. I’m with you. I miss those days.

RedRoom NOW! On The Air!

The new year is as busy as ever for Jana’s RedRoom.

We are proud to present RedRoom NOW! our television show that spotlights the Las Vegas Downtown Arts District.

We aired two TV episodes at the end of last year. But we paused to regroup, and rather than using an outside production company, we are now producing the show ourselves, with a talented and dedicated cast and crew. We’re working very hard, on a budget that can generously be described as a shoestring!

The goal of our show is to capture the excitement, the fun, and the heart of the downtown Las Vegas Arts District. We are featuring chats with locals artists, reports from live events, demonstrations of art techniques, fabulous musicians, singers and dancers, and we will show you around the neighborhood where all the fun is happening! Join us as we walk around to galleries, restaurants, bars, shops and events. There’s so much to see and we are excited to bring it to you.

RedRoom NOW! airs on Saturdays at 12 noon, and the episode repeats on Sunday night, at 11pm.  Our first new episode airs Sat. & Sun., Jan. 21 & 22.  Watch us on Century Link Prism TV Channel 22 and also on Free TV — Digital Broadcast, on Movies+, channel 47.5.

After it airs on TV, you can watch our new 30-minute episodes, right here on the Jana’s RedRoom website. We will post that link soon!

Stay tuned! There’s more exciting news coming soon from Jana’s RedRoom!

SHOW INFORMATION:
Jana’s Redroom’s new location is opening up with the 3 Baaad Sheep. Featuring the collaboration pieces of Alexander Sky, Eddie Canumay and Alexander Huerta.

3 BAAAD SHEEP BIO:
The art collective known as 3 Baaad Sheep came together for the first time on the patio of the Arts Factory in Las Vegas, Nevada. Alexander “Sky” Carranza, Eddie “cicifu” Canumay and Alexander P. Huerta comprise the trio of mixed-media creators who exploded onto the scene of the Las Vegas 18b Arts District in August 2010.
This collaborative dream-team was formed when Eddie, Sky and Alex discovered that by combining their unique perspectives, experiences and styles into a single painting they were able to create mind-stretching, provocative, edgy works of art. Their pieces are truly polarizing, inspiring critical thinking and inviting the viewer to challenge “conventional wisdom”.

Just one year into forming 3 Baaad Sheep, they were awarded “best in show” at the Art-Rageous juried show at the Cosmopolitan Hotel in Las Vegas (July 2011).

Today they have collectors spanning the U.S. and Canada.
3 Baaad Sheep collaborations are available on canvas, wood, furniture and wall murals in a wide variety of sizes, shapes, colors and subject matter. They leverage a wide range of mixed media, including acrylic, aerosol, oil pencils, collage, sharpies, stencils, and many found objects.

Steve Jasper’s Artist Statement:

Exploring rhythm and color through figurative art has always been a passion of mine. I see color as substance; it is its own entity. You can see it surrounding form, in the atmosphere, even in the shadows…especially in the shadows.

I studied illustration at Brandes Art Institute and California Art Institute. I graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Illustration from Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California.

My career soon turned to computer art and animation.  My years of working as a 3D animator have greatly contributed to my understanding of light and movement. In a 3D environment the artist sets up his whole world, he places every light and camera, chooses all the colors and textures and even depth of field. Bringing this knowledge into my paintings has contributed to my unique style.

My primary mediums are oil and pastel. I begin a painting with a live model; usually a dancer or other performer. I prefer using pastel for shorter studies where I’m freer to experiment with gesture and color. For larger and more complex paintings I tend to use oil paint on canvas.  As always gesture, color and light create beauty and tell my story.
